Day 36, Why Am I Happy?

I am happy because I’m grateful. I choose to be grateful. That gratitude allows me to be happy.

I took my SAMe and thyroid medication at 7:44 AM this morning, close to the ideal time.  That will help me lose more weight.  I am still working on timeliness, one of my top ten values.  Now that I am starting my 60th year, I want to be happy as ever.
Yesterday, I read most of Josh McDowell’s God-Breathed:  The Undeniable Power and Reliability of Scripture.  Josh thought of quitting his ministry due to his age but got the divine direction that he should keep delivering his message “until the whole world hears.”  Josh is more than 20 years older than I am.  If he is not quitting, why should I?  I am just getting started!

Green Drinks

Minutes ago, I finished a spinach-and-kale green drink.   I ate some shrimp for extra protein.  Compared to my weight last year at this time, I am 2.3 kg less.  That is good because I came close to attaining my ideal weight in 2019.  This year, I will do it.
Then I will figure out how to sustain it.  I plan to continue intermittent fasting.  I think that will be key.  I may not fast as long.  Let me figure it out in more detail once I get there.  I have lost 3.0 kg so far on this journey and plan to lose 1.8 kg more.  3.0 kg in 35 days impresses even me.  It is an excellent reason to be happy.
At 10:15 AM, I leave to go to the chiropractor.   Yesterday, I felt down and decided not to analyze why.  That is probably the best decision I could have made.  My mind gets more depressed the more reasons I think of for my depression.  Instead, I am thinking of why I feel happy.

Preparing For My Day

5-10 things I am grateful for:
  • a 3.0-kilogram weight loss since Day One (for those not familiar with kilograms, that is a lot)
  • a library within walking distance
  • chiropractic treatment
  • delicious food
  • unlimited books to read
  • music to listen to
  • a loving husband
  • a working jeep
  • a comfortable condo
  • freedom to vote
comments, feelings, ideas, moods, and empowering questions:
Why do I feel happy?
If I find reasons I am happy, my brain accepts it as the truth.
I lost 3.0 kilograms in the past 35 days.
I wrote a blog entry every day, sharing my experience.
I kept a complete food diary except for two days.

I have completed my diet diary for the day, assuming that I am fasting for the rest of the day.  My zinc is a little high, so I may use a different zinc supplement this coming week.  I took a lysine supplement.  However, I probably did not really need it because shrimp has lysine, even though it is not in the food record.
I am happy with the diet diary as a whole. Cronometer helps me get complete nutrition with a minimum of calories.

Diet Diary

Now the rest of the day is open.  What is the best way to spend it?  I could take a shower.
I took a shower.  I read and rested, then I walked to a floral shop and bought a birthday bouquet.

Tonight, I ask myself, “Why am I happy?”
  1. I have fantastic flowers.  My husband supports getting them; he says we can get more of them.
  2. This is a phenomenal blog journey.  I lost 3.0 kilograms in 35 days.
  3. I almost finished Josh McDowell’s book that I checked out yesterday.
  4. My husband loves me.
  5. I look tremendous.
  6. The condo is clean.
  7. The weather is colder but still mild.
  8. JV Life Tracker keeps my life on track.
  9. My new version of JV Life Tracker (Vibrancy) is almost ready to release.
  10. I have gained mastery of my eating through intermittent fasting.
  11. My complexion is clear.
  12. Our air-conditioner works.
  13. I had a happy birthday with friends and family.
  14. My clothes fit.
  15. My blueberry walnut Mini Joy with cinnamon and ginger was delectable.  (See lunch in the diet diary for the ingredients.)
  16. I do not have to work a 9-5 job and likely will never need to again.
  17. I can devote myself to writing.
  18. I agree with Josh McDowell that one of the Bible’s principal messages is God’s close relationship with us.
  19. Our ice maker performs.
  20. Our dryer actually dries our laundry.
  21. I have two working computers.
  22. I got a shower today.
Wow!  I am glad I did not answer the question, “Why am I depressed?”  I could have found answers, and that would not have made me happy.
Seconds ago, my husband asked me to read a devotional for him to make him feel better.  I think it helped.

Evening PRAYER
Dear Lord,
The flowers were the highlight of my day.  However, most importantly, I learned to ask the right question, “Why am I happy?”
Lord, I thought of eating tonight, but I regret it whenever I break my intermittent fast.  Tomorrow, I will be grateful that I hung in there.
Lord, I am so grateful for who I have become and what I have.  I look forward to living this 60th year in celebration.  My life is not without trials.  However, I do not have to dwell on them.
