Wednesday Afternoon

 
Today, I have been in an elevated mood.  SAMe is definitely working.  I am taking 600 mg each morning.  I also increased my l-tryptophan to one gram each night, up from 500 mg.  I will have to be sure my mood does not go higher by tomorrow.  I prepared a green drink yesterday, and it helped me lose more than one pound this morning.  It curbed my appetite.  I made a green drink again this morning.
 
Here is the recipe:
 

Green Drink

 
Ingredients:
1 each
juice of one lemon
1.7 grams
sea salt
10 grams
olive oil
to taste
onion powder, turmeric, basil, oregano
28 grams
chia seeds
144 grams
organic baby spinach
720 ml
filtered water, topped with crushed ice
 
Directions:
If possible, use a digital scale that measures to .1 grams to measure the sea salt.  It is tricky to get right.  Add all ingredients to a Vitamix.  I made it with lots of basil this morning, and it turned out great.  Mix the green drink until smooth.  Enjoy!

Today, I have had a dialog with my Maker, part of which I kept in The Journal.  I have also had moments of mental silence.  I pray I can keep my mood up without going over the top.
 

Garage Door Opener Remote

 
My husband is not feeling well today.  He has not been able to eat or drink anything but water.  He got up and watched TV later this afternoon, so he may be feeling better now.  We still have not resolved our garage door opener issue, but we have another one on order, so I am hopeful the problem is restricted to the unit we have.
 
My building manager just called and offered to let us have another garage door remote that is already programmed.  I am so grateful.  He said he would run it by tomorrow.  We may have the problem resolved sooner than I expected!

My mood is lower today than yesterday.  I took less of my medication, Risperdal, yesterday (1 mg instead of my usual 1.5 mg).  I would like a more elevated mood all the time, but yesterday may have been too elevated.  I wish I could be both up and safe.

Even though my green drink is great, I do not feel like making one this morning.  I will get back to it though, maybe even later today.
 
I determined not long ago that I may need to use green drinks regularly in order to reach my weight loss goal.  I did not want to do it, but if that is what it takes, perhaps I can reconsider.  I do want to succeed at my weight loss goal.  Here it is, Day 226 already, and I have not made the progress I wanted to make.  However, I have made great progress with my blog.  My green drink recipes and variations are described in my free ebook Joyful Vibrance:
Transform Your Body Image, Energy, and Mood!, which you can get here for free.  The last time I lost a serious amount of weight, I made and consumed green drinks a lot.  Doing something like that may be necessary for you as well.
 

Cleansing

 
Though I have never done an official cleanse, I believe using my green drink recipes could be used to do a cleanse.  Maybe with FMTV I will learn more about cleanses and have more to say about them.  I have done some herbal cleanses and I terminated one of them prematurely because I was afraid I would end up losing too much weight.  My weight was very low at the time.
 

Macronutrients

 
Now let me look at today, and see what I can do with it.  Yes, a green drink would be a good idea.  I think I will have an avocado for breakfast though.  I have been aiming for a macronutrient balance of 50% fat, 30% carbohydrate, and 20% protein.  However, that makes my net carbs fairly high every day.  I am more successful at losing weight if my net carbs are fewer.  I could change my targets to 60% fat, 20% carbohydrate, and 20% protein.  Some time last year, I steered away from too much fat because I was getting nauseated.  However, I may have miss-associated that and the problem may have really been too little sodium.  60% fat is still pretty moderate.  A higher fat diet would push me to eat more avocados, but that is something I could do.  I can also add more olive oil to my green drinks and push their fat content up.
 

Avocados

 
Recently, I analyzed my diet diary, looking at my food log for each day preceding a weight loss.  Frequently, on those days I ate avocados.  Avocados seem to promote weight loss.  Dr. Joseph Mercola, a popular health blogger, advocates eating a lot of avocados and buying them in bulk.  It is hard to get enough potassium on a high-fat diet.  Avocados are one high-fat food that is rich in potassium.  Avocados seem expensive, but per calorie they are no more expensive than other vegetables.  They are rich in many nutrients.  I recommend them.  For an avocado shake that is out-of-this-world, check out my avocado shake recipe.
 

Protein

 
Now I am aiming for a little more fat and less carbohydrate.  I can keep my protein level the same.  It is higher than what Dr. Joseph Mercola recommends, but my belief is that adequate protein helps keep you from losing your muscle mass as you diet, at least that is what Dr. Barry Sears advocated.  In Fat For Fuel, Dr. Joseph Mercola warned that the ketogenic diet can result in loss of muscle mass.  At IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition), we were not given the definitive word about protein.  Their recommendation was to experiment with it.  My belief is that an all animal protein diet may not be a good idea.  I think using both vegetable and animal proteins is ideal, which I have done most of the time since 1996.  If you use soy protein, be sure it is organic and fermented.

You may recognize Brendon Burchard’s six habits of high performance in this.  In 2017, I decided to incorporate his habits into my value system.  I also have Joyful Vibrance values from my ebook Joyful Vibrance:  Transform Your Body Image, Energy, and Mood!
 
Will living by these values give me the life I want?  Brendon says living his values will lead to high performance.  High performance is great.  However, I want to feel joy in it.  So I included joy.  I also want to do creative things, but I want them to be productive.  Wisdom, according to Solomon in Proverbs, can lead to happiness, long life, and riches.  I want a long life of vibrancy.  Consistency is one of the hardest values to live by, but I learned from Coca-Cola that consistency in promoting a brand over a long period of time is very effective.  Timeliness involves overcoming procrastination.  Procrastination is one of the greatest blocks to success, so overcoming it would be valuable.
 
Starting today, I will start scoring whether I am living by these values each day.  I started a document detailing my strategy for living by each of these values.  Over time, I will see how my life shapes up.
 

Afternoon

 

Blueberry Strawberry Shake

 
For lunch, I put together a new shake balanced at 60% fat, 20% protein, 20% carbohydrate, providing 31% of my daily macronutrients.  The Vitamixed mixture turned out great and does not even need an additional sweetener.  In addition to the light sweetness of the strawberries and the slightly greater sweetness of the blueberries, coconut and vanilla may heighten the impression of sweetness.  Even the sea salt may have enhanced the sweetness as it often takes salt to bring out a sweet taste.  (Coco-Cola found that to be true anyway.)  The 600 ml of water turns out to be just the right amount.  Berkey is the brand name of the water filter I use.

The nutritional qualities are also grade A.  Adding spinach to the smoothie did a lot to increase its nutritional content.  It kind of makes it a green drink.  At IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition,) we learned to incorporate greens into every meal, if possible.  Blueberries contain resveratrol and pterostilbene, phytonutrients shown by science to promote long life.  Resveratrol and pterostilbene are not listed in the chart below, which shows the nutrient content of the blueberry strawberry shake.  Whole foods contain a long list of phytonutrients, which promote good health, which are typically not included in food supplements.  That is one reason why it is usually superior to get nutrients from food, if possible.

Our building manager brought over a garage door opener today, one that is programmed correctly.  I have not tested it yet, but I believe we are all set.  Finally this crisis is over!  I am so grateful.

Lord,
 
I am grateful for the day.  Unfortunately, I felt some more depression off and on today.  It could be from resuming my regular amount of Risperdal.  It would be great if I had vibrant joy every day, but I am losing hope that that can be a reality.
 
Tony Robbins says the way to change is to associate massive pain with the old way of doing things and massive pleasure to the new way.  I have to admit that my neuro-associations for pain and pleasure do not always work for me.
 
Tony said that whenever we experience a great deal of pain or pleasure, our mind looks for the cause in unique occurrences that may happen simultaneously and/or consistently with whatever is painful or pleasurable.  He said its easy to mis-associate the cause of pain and pleasure.
 
It could be that after I felt really good yesterday that I crashed today remembering the pain I would have should I have another manic episode.  I could lose my marriage and my money.  I could gain weight from being in the hospital.
I could even lose my blog because a hospitalization would suck the life out of me so much I would not want to write again for months.  In short, I associate massive pain with feeling good.
 
That does not seem quite right, but it may explain why I got depressed today.  I want vibrant joy, but when I start to get close, I start feeling depressed.  What can I do?
 
In the past, I have overcome my fear of hospitalization, but when I do that, I can be in danger of being hospitalized.  So I am afraid to not be afraid.
 
My readers must think my wires are crossed, and they kind of are.  Life with bipolar can do that to you.  I pray I am going to be okay.  It is tough being depressed.

P.S. Lord, I realize that in every challenge there is opportunity, so guide me to figure this out.  I may find a solution that will benefit others.  Just describing the problem may benefit some who do not realize they associate pain with pleasure or vice versa.
